Authorities in King County are investigating a troubling case involving three young dogs found with injuries suggesting possible abuse. The dogs, believed to be Coonhound mixes around four to five months old, were discovered on separate days but within close proximity to each other near Southeast Green Valley Road, just outside Auburn.
Regional Animal Services of King County (RASKC) reported that the first puppy was located Monday, followed by two more on Tuesday—all within a mile radius. The dogs were found by different individuals and appeared to be from the same litter.
What raised concern among animal services staff was the condition of the dogs’ faces. Each had significant swelling around the muzzle. According to Sergeant Rebecca Smokoska, “That level of swelling isn’t typical of injuries we normally see in stray animals.” Veterinary evaluation indicated the injuries were consistent with pressure necrosis—a serious condition caused by prolonged compression, likely from tape or a strap being wrapped around their mouths.

Additionally, the dogs were found with pus discharging from their mouths. Despite the injuries, they were otherwise physically healthy. However, Sgt. Smokoska noted the animals showed signs of emotional distress and fear, especially around other dogs.
“These puppies are clearly not used to typical social environments,” she said. “Their fearful reactions suggest they were not raised in a safe or loving home.”
RASKC is now seeking the public’s assistance in identifying who may have abandoned or harmed the dogs. Authorities are eager to speak with anyone who might have information about the case.
“If we can find the person responsible, we can begin a deeper investigation into what exactly happened,” Sgt. Smokoska added.
Anyone who recognizes the dogs or has knowledge of the situation is urged to contact RASKC at (206) 296-7387 or email [email protected]. Please reference case number A25-001848.
