TUKWILA, Wash. — A high-intensity pursuit involving multiple agencies ended Thursday afternoon when authorities arrested a wanted felon who had attempted to evade capture by fleeing into the Green River.
The incident began around 2:15 p.m. when Tukwila police spotted a man with an active escape warrant tied to a second-degree assault case. When officers approached the suspect—a transient from Tacoma—he took off and entered the river near Interstate 405 in an attempt to get away.
Despite officers tossing him flotation devices for his safety, the man refused assistance, pushing them aside as he drifted.

As the situation escalated, a coordinated response was launched. A helicopter, drone, K-9 unit, firefighters, and several officers were deployed to track and contain the man’s movement.
Eventually, he reached the riverbank and tried to scramble up a steep, brush-covered embankment. Officers navigated the thick vegetation and used a fire department ladder to reach the suspect and safely remove him from the area.
The man was taken into custody without further incident.
