Bellevue Police Arrest Rideshare Driver for Allegedly Groping Teen Passenger

Updated On:

Bellevue police have taken a rideshare driver into custody following accusations that he sexually assaulted a teenage passenger earlier this year. Authorities are now asking the public to come forward with any additional information or similar incidents involving the suspect.

Incident Occurred in Early Morning Hours

According to Bellevue Police Department spokesperson Drew Anderson, the assault occurred around 4:45 a.m. on February 17 in the 12100 block of Southeast 44th Place. The suspect, identified as 43-year-old Martin Njoki, allegedly persuaded a teenage girl to sit in the front seat of his vehicle before making unwanted sexual advances and attempting to keep her from exiting the car.

Fortunately, the girl managed to escape and made it home safely before contacting the police.

“It was a terrifying situation,” said Anderson. “Thankfully, she was able to get away and reach safety. This incident raised serious concerns due to the predatory behavior and the fear it caused this young victim.”

Charges Filed Against Driver

Njoki has been formally charged with unlawful imprisonment and indecent liberties. Police are concerned that there may be other victims and are actively investigating.

He was driving a Mitsubishi with Washington license plate CBM2456 at the time of the incident.

Police Offer Rideshare Safety Tips

In light of the incident, Bellevue police are reminding rideshare users to take steps to protect themselves:

  • Always confirm the driver’s name and vehicle before entering.

  • Sit in the backseat rather than the front.

  • Share your ride status with a trusted contact.

  • Check the driver’s ratings and reviews.

  • Stay alert during the ride and avoid distractions.

  • If you ever feel unsafe, cancel the ride and call 911 immediately.

Police Urge Potential Victims to Come Forward

Authorities are urging anyone who may have had an uncomfortable or threatening experience with a rideshare driver matching Njoki’s description—or who drove a Mitsubishi with plate CBM2456—to report it to police.

“If something felt wrong during your ride—whether it was inappropriate behavior or an unsettling conversation—please let us know,” Anderson said.

Reports can be made by calling 911 or the Bellevue Police Department’s non-emergency line at 425-577-5656.
