A fiery crash involving a semi-truck caused a major disruption on Interstate 5 in Tacoma early Monday morning, closing the northbound lanes for more than eight hours and creating extensive traffic delays.
The incident occurred at approximately 4:40 a.m. on April 29 near South 84th Street. According to authorities, the semi was traveling north when it suddenly veered into the center median and struck a light pole. The impact triggered a fire, and the vehicle came to a stop, blocking all northbound lanes of the interstate.
Emergency crews responded quickly, but the crash created a traffic nightmare, with congestion stretching more than five miles during the morning rush hour.

The truck driver, a 22-year-old from Manteca, California, was identified by investigators. As of now, it remains unclear what caused the driver to lose control.
Officials say the crash remains under active investigation as they work to determine the circumstances that led to the collision and fire.
