A 50-year-old man, Vicente Islas Gomez, lost his life after being struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross Central Avenue South in Kent on the evening of April 21.
The collision occurred around 8:47 p.m. in the 900 block of Central Avenue South, just north of South 259th Street. According to Kent Police, Gomez was reportedly walking from the center turn lane into the southbound traffic lane when he was hit by a vehicle driven by a 68-year-old man from Auburn.

The driver remained at the scene and fully cooperated with investigators, including undergoing tests to rule out impairment. Based on early findings, police do not believe drugs or alcohol played a role in the incident.
An official report from the King County Medical Examiner’s Office released on April 23 confirmed that Gomez died from multiple blunt force injuries. His death has been classified as accidental.
Authorities continue to investigate the exact circumstances surrounding the crash.
